Update from Will: Reflecting on 2017, starting 2018 with purpose

Wow, is it already 2018? Wasn’t the new millennium just the other day? It’s amazing how the changing years make you realize how fast time flies (and to re-prioritize your time and efforts)! We recently ran some numbers, and since 2013, our company has tripled in size, with 40 percent more contracts! One thing that has not changed:  our dedication to client service continues to produce successful engagements!

Treinen consultants continue to amaze me with their focus and commitment to delivering for our clients. We’re happy they chose Team Treinen as a part of their career path. Right now we’re engaged on 13 projects – some are one-person projects, and some are bigger teams of Treinen consultants working on large-scale projects with our clients.

I’m proud that we’re working on some of the most critical and high-profile projects in the state, like modernizing the state’s Background Check System, delivering state-of-the-art Tax and Business Licensing System replacements, and modernizing the State’s Vehicle and Drivers’ licensing systems. There’s definitely challenges on each of our projects, as is the case on any large undertaking with many stakeholders and interests, but our team tackles each with new ideas and solutions. I love it when a client calls me to tell me things like “Your consultant makes every day better” or “We need more Treinen people.”

2017 was a year of growth and some changes for Treinen.

In July, we made some positive changes to our leadership team that has positioned us to take further advantage of opportunities. Our staff have adapted well and have engaged with me and the leadership team, for which I am so grateful. This is how successful organizational change is supposed to look, but it’s not always easy.

In September, we sponsored and attended PMI Olympia’s Instant Impact conference. Though I couldn’t attend, our seven consultants who attended found it thought-provoking and useful. We are staying committed to professional development so we can serve our clients better!

We held our first webinar in November on building a cohesive team for project managers. There was a lot of information packed into 30 minutes and some great free materials provided – if you missed it, check out the recording and materials here. We’re planning our next webinar now which will be geared more toward business analysis.

In December, we broke into the world of social media! Well actually, we had already been posting on LinkedIn, but we added Facebook and Twitter with a real strategy about how best to use them and engage with the business consulting community. I encourage you to follow us and join the conversation!

We just held our annual New Year’s party for our staff and subcontractors and their families. Getting to know our staff personally, seeing their spouses and children, is so important to me. Connecting outside of work and having fun really builds those bonds when you’re working through the hard stuff on the clock. We are a business about people, and helping them succeed, and this extends to our clients as well as our employees.

Coming up in April, one of our consultants will be speaking at a PMI Olympia monthly meeting. Stay tuned for more information about the topic and speaker. We’ve also been working on articles to add to the project management, business analysis and change management conversations. If you want to receive those, sign up for our email updates and follow us on social media.

Suffice it to say, 2017 was a great year, and we look forward to more exciting opportunities in 2018 for us as a company and as people. I wish you a successful year in 2018, whatever goals you have set for yourself!
